About

Answering the Call of the Wild

The mountains are a place of profound contrasts—comfort and survival, nature and barrenness, isolation and socializing, hardship and relaxation. For over 40 years, I’ve experienced every condition, emotion, and outcome they have to offer.

I’ve stridden confidently through epic solo journeys, feeling like a hero on a quest. I’ve drifted aimlessly through social gatherings in the hills, surrounded by laughter and camaraderie. And I’ve led countless others, teaching the somewhat mystical art of being a safe and considerate mountaineer—a skill that requires respect, patience, and a connection to the wild.

But the mountains demand a toll, and my body has borne the cost of my passion. My elbows have begged me to leave rock climbing behind. My back has rebelled against the heavy loads of snow and ice gear carried in the biting cold of winter. My knees scream at the mere thought of downhill plods with a full camping load.

Over the past year, I’ve stepped back from the mountains. Physical challenges, along with the pull of other work and lifestyle commitments, have kept me away. I’ve found comfort and security in my home: a warm chair, coffee at my side, gentle music playing in the background.

Yet, something is missing.

Something far greater than all these comforts.

The mountains are calling me once again. Despite my body’s protests, my spirit, soul, and heart are ready to answer. I know I must return—not just for myself, but for something larger.

Man Goes Mountain is about this journey. It’s about feeding this deep, primal need to connect with the wilderness. It’s also about encouraging and helping others to rediscover their own connection with nature, to reach out with their spirit, and to explore the deeper meaning of life through the outdoors.

I’m embarking on a mission to organize gatherings and workshops for small groups to explore nature—not as something separate from us, but as part of us. Together, we will not fight the elements or cower in fear of the landscapes around us. Instead, we’ll learn to evolve, reconnecting with the ancient instincts that have guided humanity for centuries.

We will:

•  Awaken our spirits through challenge and testing.

•  Expand our souls mentally and spiritually, allowing us to explore new depths.

•  Build resilience and dreams, inspiring us to journey forward with purpose.

This will not be easy. It will push us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But in that struggle, we’ll find reward.

I am on this journey myself, and I want others to come along with me. As I learn, expand my horizons, and rediscover my place in the mountains, I hope to walk alongside others as they do the same.

I am a qualified and experienced mountaineer, with years of teaching people how to stay safe in the wilderness and navigate the natural elements. Now, I am returning to the mountains—not only to teach, but to seek out the spirit of life in its purest form.
